The Committee
The Essex Flames committee members:
Stephie Liangos - Secretary
Silje (Sess) Eide - Dance Captain
Bonjour!
My name is Silje, but people tend to call me “Sess” in England, as there are some complications with pronunciation. I am Norwegian and came straight from “Preforming Art High School” in Bergen to England last year. I majored in dance and have been dancing for a long time. My majors in High School were jazz, ballet, lyrical and contemporary. Out side of school I danced Hip Hop and worked at “Step In Dance studio”. I have had the privilege to take workshops with some the best hip-hop choreographers in the world like “Gigi Torres” from America through “The Vibes” based in Oslo. I have also danced at places like “The London Contemporary Dance School”. When I came to England I knew I wanted to join a society and being a dancer I thought long about which society I should join. I was curious about cheerleading because I knew that it involved some kind of dancing that I had never tried before. I came to the tryouts and I never looked back. Not only was there a lot of dancing in cheerleading, but they also had their own dance squads that offered pom-dance and hip-hop. Cheer dance was new and exciting and something I had never tried before so if you like dance you will definitely like cheer. So this year I am your dance captain and I will have two squads; one pom-squad and one hip-hop-squad. I might also add jazz on later. Let me stress how important it is to join a society. When joining a society you will instantly gain a hand full of friends that might end up being some of your best friends. I know I have met many great friends though cheerleading. If you haven’t done dance before, you are still very much welcome to come and give it a go! Hope to see you at tryouts.

Sarah Wendland - Treasurer
Heya, I am Sarah and this year I am the treasurer for the Essex Flames. I am going to be in my third and final year at uni studying psychology and have been a member of the Flames for the past 2 years. With cheerleading I have had the chance to make some amazing friends not only with the cheerleaders but with the American footballers which we support at their games! The Flames is one of the best things about uni and I don’t know what I would have done if it wasn’t for cheerleading! We are one big family and I absolutely love being a part of it.
I can’t wait for the next year and intend to enjoy every moment of it as it’s my last. The Flames have something for everyone so come along and give it a go J

I am a proud member of the Flames and already looking forward to another amazing year! Last year we became National Champions in Level One at ICC. It was a great experience and I can’t wait for us to go on to win another!
Cheerleading is a great sport to take part in. It has boosted my confidence and has given me the opportunity to learn things that I never would before! You’ll never look back!
Looking forward to meeting you all J

Alicia Hull - President
Hiya, I’m Alicia and I’m President of the Flames this year. I’ve been a cheerleader for 5 years and absolutely love the sport; I love dancing, gymnastics, entertaining and having fun so being able to do all those things through one sport is a dream! I’ve been a Flame for a year and I know everyone will back me up on this… we truly are one big family who support each other and have so much fun together both in and outside of cheerleading.
We are a competitive cheerleading squad so we compete at several competitions throughout the year in both stunt and dance and last year our all-girl squad actually placed 1st in their division making them Grand International Champions!! However, if competitions aren’t for you, we offer so much more; we cheer for the Essex Blades American Football team, we participate in many charity projects, volunteering activities and public events and we have loads of awesome social events planned for next year!
Anyone can join our fantastic Flames family; you don’t have to have any experience, just the will to learn and have fun. Cheerleading will give you so much confidence, you’ll meet loads of new friends, learn so many new skills and develop a passion you never knew you ever could! We had an awesome year last year and I’m sure it’ll be even better this year so come along and experience the cheer world…I assure you, you’ll be completely hooked once you start!
Cheery love,
Alicia xxx
Abigail Moore - Squad Captain
Having no previous cheerleading or dance experience I wasn’t sure what to expect when I joined the Flames. The squad is now my best friends and my competitive team. My proudest moment in cheerleading was winning ICC level 1 Grand Champions. As Game Day Captain, I’m really excited for next year and hope to get loads of people at games and learning new stunts. FLAME ON!
